Going Back in Time...

Today's our visit to Antietam & Harpers Ferry. I can't wait! My sons have been telling their friends at school about it all week. Granted, my youngest told his buddies we'd walk "Bloody Fountain" rather than Bloody Lane, but hey, how many 6 year-olds can name points in Civil War battles? At least he knows Bloody Lane and the Cornfield, etc, exists. He even knows the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation was issed by Lincoln days after the battle at Antietam. He can barely read, but the boy knows his history. I'm raising my sons right -- LOL.

Living history Cavalrymen will be at Harpers Ferry this afternoon, too, couldn't have timed this better. (Well, we could have waited until Antietam's anniversary weekend in a couple weeks, but do you have any idea how crowded the battlefield's going to be then???) Hiking, a picnic, seeing Grandma & the rest of the family this evening...

A stellar way to cap off a stellar summer.
